This picture was taken at SPA NYC. The party was hosted
by DEFEX CLOTHING
& CRAMCONCEPTS
http://www.defexclothing.com
and
http://www.graffitiongirls.com
has been collaborating together doing
special events like the Graffiti On Girls. So far in 2003, they did 3
parties and each event was a success. Every time, the crowd doubled in
size. The last jump-off took place in Freight. DEFEX CLOTHING hosted a
group art show. The theme of the show was art on skateboards. One of the
contributors was Old skool pool ripper Steve Olson, Scotty Schuartz who
made benches out of skateboards, Shane Bovell who made a guitar out of a
board, PJAY from BKNYC, and many more. Art contributed was only accepted
if it was on a skateboard. Our next show will not limit the artists that
partake. It was all love and was definitely a great time. To find out

HERE"S THE SKINNY FROM THE BANKS CLEAN UP
THIS PAST WEEKEND....
Okay check it....I got there about 12:30 pm because I had to go to work
first. Steve Rodriguez got there about an hour earlier and had the clean
up started but they did not have enough brooms. When I got there, I got
attacked by eager skaters that were willing to help because I had more
brooms. I wish someone had that on film because it was pretty sick.
Anyways, there were about 500 kids that showed up maybe more. Everyone was
helping, whether sweeping or picking up dirt with dust pans and dumping them
in the garbage bags. It was a really good turn out. Not only did the
banks get cleaned up but we also fixed the cracks and filled in the part of
the banks that had missing bricks. It was beautiful and I just want to say
that if you missed this event, you missed being part of history in the
making.
Later on during the day, there was one incident that really bothered me.
Cops showed up because apparently, some bypasser called and told them that
kids were throwing bricks at cars and just getting rowdy. They were so
ready to kick everyone out. They started asking me questions like what
was going on, Why are there so many people here and stuff like that. Well
I was not having that at all. I told them what was up and they weren't
really listening to what I was saying. They then told me to just make sure
that when we were done to clean up after this mess. I then told them
that's what we were there for. So they were just okay then fine, go on
with your day.
After all that non-sense, some serious skating went down. You should see
some of the footage in the next few issues of 411 Video Magazine, Resolve
Magazine, Beautiful/Decay Magazine and more. Overall, I am very happy
about the turnout. I would like to thank Steve Rodriguez from 5boro,
Craig Metzger from Etnies for helping me at Defex Clothing put together
this beautiful event. I plan to do something like this again with the same
people because it was a great experience. Words by Sancho
